This is the view from my window on Kamanza Dori, looking south toward the Kyoto Tower. Before moving here I had thought of the Tower as an affront to Kyoto aesthetics, but I have grown to like it. Not much of traditional Kyoto is evident anyway from our ninth story perch. Japanese style is quite visible once we go down the elevator and step outside.
I am an adjunct professor at the Osaka University Institute of Social and Economic Research, and Professor Emeritus of economics at NCSU in Raleigh, North Carolina, where I taught for 30 years.
I am the author of The Japanese Economy, Oxford U Press, 2e, 2005, and editor of the M.E. Sharpe journal The Japanese Economy.
